The Third Commandment

The third commandment can also be found in the book of Exodus chapter 20, and it's one of the four commandments that deals with our relationship with God as individuals, just like the first and second ones.

“Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”

Exodus 20:7

Understanding the Third Commandment

This commandment deals with us giving God the respect, reverence, and fear He deserves. Whenever we mention His name, we should do it in a way that gives Him honor and glory.

It also teaches us not to take His name in vain, which is to misuse God’s name, or to mention His name for things that would dishonor Him.

Conclusion

God is pure, holy, good and worthy of all praise. We should never misuse His name in any situation. God's name should be used only when to give Him the praise, honor, and glory He deserves.
